Xi Jinping Meets with President Solís of Costa Rica

On July 16 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Luis Guillermo Solís of Costa Rica in Brasilia.

Xi Jinping expressed that, though China and Costa Rica are far away from each other and have different national situations, we respect each other and treat each other equally and our friendship has been constantly deepened. The China-Costa Rica relations can be well compared to a thriving enterolobium cyclocarpum. The Chinese side is willing to continue to work together with the Costa Rican side to plant deep the root of political mutual thrust, grow strong the trunk of mutually beneficial cooperation and grow lush the leaves of people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to make the big tree of China-Costa Rica relations yield countless fruits.

Xi Jinping stressed that both the Chinese side and the Costa Rican side should maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, enhance exchanges between the two governments, legislatures and political parties, continue to support each other on major issues concerning each other's core interests, and maintain close communication and cooperation on major international and regional issues such as climate change and sustainable development. Both sides should make use of the China-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to optimize trade structure and enhance cooperation in infrastructure construction, agriculture, science and technology, clean energy and other fields. The Chinese side is willing to import more products made in Costa Rica. Both sides should expand exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, local affairs and youth so as to build a sound public opinion atmosphere.

Xi Jinping appreciated Costa Rica for vigorously pushing forward the overall cooperation between China and Latin America and conducting a great deal of work to prepare for the forthcoming China-Latin America and the Caribbean Summit as the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Hope that the Costa Rican side will continue to play a positive role.

Solís expressed that, both the Costa Rican people and the Chinese people love peace and pursue progress. The Costa Rican side appreciates the Chinese side for its support and help to Costa Rica's economic development and improvement of people's livelihood, attaches great importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations with China and is willing to enhance political exchanges between the two countries, expand economic and trade cooperation, facilitate people-to-people and cultural exchanges and build the "Great Wall" of consolidation and cooperation between Costa Rica and China. The Costa Rican side welcomes the Chinese side to actively participate in transportation infrastructure construction and other programs in Costa Rica and stands ready to enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs with the Chinese side. The Costa Rican side supports and actively takes part in Latin America-China cooperation, and promotes the establishment of a fairer and more reasonable international order to well uphold the rights and interests of developing countries.
