On July 18, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with Foreign Minister Manuel Gonzalez Sanz of Costa Rica at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Speaking positively of the development of China-Costa Rica relationship, Yang Jiechi stated that China is willing to, together with Costa Rica, persistently enhance political mutual trust, expand cooperation in trade, investment, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other areas and strengthen coordination and collaboration in international and regional affairs so as to push for new results from the development of bilateral friendly relations.

Manuel Gonzalez Sanz said that Costa Rica highly values and is committed to prioritizing the development of the strategic partnership between Costa Rica and China. Costa Rica is willing to work with the Chinese side to enhance exchanges in various fields, deepen practical cooperation and promote the relationship between the two countries to make greater progress.
