President Luis Guillermo Solís of Costa Rica Meets with Wang Yi

On September 15, 2017 local time, President Luis Guillermo Solís of Costa Rica met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in San Jose.

Luis Guillermo Solís first asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings and sound wishes to President Xi Jinping. Luis Guillermo Solís expressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Costa Rica and China, Costa Rica-China relations have made substantial progress over the past ten years. Seeing China as a great friend and partner, Costa Rica has always viewed and developed its relations with China from a strategic height. Costa Rica thanks the Chinese side for providing support and assistance to its development and construction, and hopes that China gives play to its advantages and continues to actively participate in the construction of infrastructure projects in Costa Rica. The two sides should earnestly implement bilateral free trade agreement, and translate trade potential into tangible trade growth. It is hoped that both sides could take the completion of China-built and funded National Police Academy for Costa Rica as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation in the field of public security. Delighted to see that China establishes diplomatic relations with Panama, the Costa Rican side considers it provides fresh opportunities for the development of Costa Rica and other Central American countries.

Conveying the greetings of President Xi Jinping to President Luis Guillermo Solís, Wang Yi expressed that Costa Rica is the first Central American country to establish diplomatic relations with China. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained close exchanges at all levels and vigorous cooperation in various fields. The importance of China-Costa Rica relations have exceeded the bilateral dimension and the relations between the two countries have been playing an exemplary and leading role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Central American Countries. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Costa Rica, and bilateral relations are marching towards the mature period from the growth period. China stands ready to work with Costa Rica from a new historical point to make persistent efforts to jointly forge a closer, more extensive and deeper strategic partnership. Both sides should enhance political mutual trust, offer support on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns and deepen practical cooperation in six major fields, namely, infrastructure construction, trade, new energy, public security, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and regional affairs, so as to better benefit the peoples of the two countries.
