On September 22, 2021, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi attended the reception celebrating the bicentennial of the independence of Costa Rica and El Salvador.

Qiu Xiaoqi said in his speech that since their independence 200 years ago, Costa Rica and El Salvador have taken on a new look, constantly improved their people's living standards and played an increasingly important role on the international stage. In recent years, under the political guidance of the heads of state, China-Costa Rica relations and China-El Salvador relations have made remarkable progress, setting a good example in Central America for adhering to the One-China principle and working together for common development. China is willing to work with Costa Rica and El Salvador to enhance political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and push bilateral relations to a new level.

Ambassadors of the two countries to China said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Costa Rica-China relations and El Salvador-China relations have developed rapidly in all aspects, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. Costa Rica and El Salvador are ready to work with China to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in various fields and push forward new development of bilateral relations.
