Xi Jinping meets with President Vladimir Putin of Russia

On September 3, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping thanked Russia for its active support in the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War and thanked Russia for sending a military group to participate in the military parade. Xi Jinping pointed out that as the main battlefields in the World War II in Asia and Europe respectively, China and Russia made the greatest sacrifice and contributed greatly to the final victory of the WWII. This year, leaders of the two countries attended each other’s activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War and commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. This is to promote regional and world peace and inject positive energy into the cause of human peace and progress.

Xi Jinping stressed that China’s policy to develop China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination and expand all-round practical cooperation is unswerving. The two sides should expand cooperation in areas of finance, investment and energy and between local governments, formulate long-term outline plan of cooperation in docking the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the construction of the Eurasian Economic Union and earnestly implement cooperative projects. As founding members of the United Nations and permanent members of its Security Council, China and Russia should continue to strengthen coordination, and promote the international community taking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations as an opportunity to look back into the past, create the future, maintain the victorious outcomes of the WWII, adhere to the purposes and principles of the “UN Charter” and build the new type of international relations with win-win cooperation as its core.

Vladimir Putin said that he is glad to visit China and attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and China’s commemoration and military parade were impressive. This year, the square teams of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the Russian army attended each other’s commemorative activities for the first time, which was of great significance. Russia highly appreciates the clear and powerful message of commitment to peace that President Xi Jinping delivered at the commemoration this morning. Russia is committed to deepening Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, and is willing to continue to push forward practical cooperation in various areas such as energy, petrochemicals, finance, aerospace, science, technology and manufacturing and to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in international and regional organizations such as the UN.

After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of cooperative agreements in fields such as diplomacy, infrastructure, local government, education, science, technology, customs, economy, energy, investment, finance, trade, electricity, transportation, network and automobile.
