On the evening of September 2, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto of Hungary, who was in China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Wang Yi welcomed Peter Szijjarto to attend the commemorations on behalf of the Hungarian government, and believed that this move demonstrates the Hungarian government and people's support to the Chinese side and respect towards history. Wang Yi expressed that in June this year, the Hungarian side took the initiative to sign the inter-governmental memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the "Belt and Road" with China, which marked the beginning of the docking between the major "Belt and Road" initiatives of the Chinese side and the "Opening to the East" strategy of the Hungarian side. In the next stage, both sides should put emphasis on strategic planning, make steady headway in the Hungary-Serbia railway project, and further expand bilateral trade and practical cooperation in various fields, so as to push the cooperation between China and the Central and East European (CEE) countries and China-Europe relations for constant progress.

Peter Szijjarto appreciated the invitation from the Chinese government and paid homage to China's important contributions to the World Anti-Fascist War. Peter Szijjarto emphasized that Hungary-China relations enjoy a strong development momentum, and the Hungarian side will make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to comprehensively promote the construction of Hungary-Serbia railway and expand bilateral practical cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and other fields. In addition, the Hungarian side will continue to play an active role in the cooperation between CEE countries and China and make new contributions to the development of Europe-China relations.
