Li Keqiang Meets with First Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan of Thailand

On the morning of September 4, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan of Thailand, who was in China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Li Keqiang said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing relations with Thailand, and is willing to work with Thailand to take the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations to push China-Thailand friendship and practical cooperation in all areas to a new high and jointly promote the China-ASEAN relations and mutually beneficial cooperation for greater development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that at the end of last year, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and I jointly witnessed in Bangkok the signing of the memorandum of understanding between China and Thailand on railway cooperation. Over the past half year, the preparations for the project has made positive progress. He hoped that both sides could enhance efforts to start the construction as scheduled so as to make this major cooperative project that benefits the Thai people, promotes China-Thailand communication and facilitates regional connectivity yield returns as soon as possible.

Prawit Wongsuwan said that Thailand and China are as close as members of a family and the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all areas are just at the best of times. Thailand is willing to further develop relations with China on the basis of 40 years of friendly cooperation since the establishment of the diplomatic relations. Thailand will work with China to accelerate the preparations and strive for an early start of the construction of Thailand-China railway.
