On September 4, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohammed al-Dairi of Libya, who was in China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War

Wang Yi said that China attaches importance to its relation with Libya and follows the situation in Libya. China supports the Libyan political dialogue progress led by the United Nations and is willing to continue playing a positive role in promoting an early restoration of peace and stability in Libya.

Wang Yi expounded China's three basic principles on resolving the Libyan issue. First, any programs targeted at resolving the Libyan issue should respect the will and choice of the Libyan people, safeguard Libya's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and accord with the long-term interests of Libya and its people. Second, the fundamental way of resolving the Libyan issue is political dialogue. We hope that all sides in Libya can cherish the current dialogue results and show greater sincerity and flexibility to achieve early comprehensive reconciliation. Third, to resolve the Libyan issue, we should address both its symptoms and root causes. The international community should increase input into Libya, take overall consideration of goals such as advancing political reconciliation, combating terrorism and promoting economic reconstruction, attend to the needs of Libya and other countries in the region for combating terrorism and development, and safeguard peace and stability in Libya and the region.

Mohammed al-Dairi completely agreed on China's proposition, thanked China for actively pushing forward the settlement of the Libyan issue, and welcomed China to play a greater role in Libya's peace progress.

Mohammed al-Dairi spoke highly of the success of the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He said that the victory the Chinese people obtained 70 years ago has also been shared by the Libyan people, and he is greatly honored to attend the commemorations of special significance himself.

Both sides also exchanged opinions on the China-Libya relations and international issues.
