Xi Jinping Meets with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of UN

On September 3, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the UN at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping welcomed Ban Ki-moon to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in China, and stressed that China holds the commemorations to show the Chinese people’s determination to maintain peace. I announced this morning that China will have a disarmament of 300,000 people, which is an important embodiment of China’s commitment to maintaining peace. Xi Jinping pointed out that established in the World Anti-Fascist War, the UN represents one of the most important achievements of the victory of the World War II. China was the first country to sign the UN Charter. As a permanent member of the Security Council, China stands ready to work with the UN to take the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the UN as an opportunity to safeguard the victorious outcomes of the WWII and the international order based on the UN Charter, stick to multi-lateralism and strengthen the UN’s role, and advance the UN’s work in the two main fields of peace and development in a balanced manner, especially in enhancing the ability of peaceful action and implementing the post-2015 development agenda. China supports the UN to play an important role in the field of climate change.

Xi Jinping stressed that the Chinese nation attaches importance to the idea of “harmony” and advocates peace, harmony and harmony in diversity. The 193 member states of the UN should respect each other, unite in harmony, help each other and jointly strive to build a new type of international relations with win-win cooperation as its core.

Ban Ki-moon said that the commemoration marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War held this morning is magnificent. The Chinese people made huge sacrifices and great contributions in the Anti-Fascist War. The activity fully shows the Chinese people’s wish to safeguard peace. China has been actively devoted to the cause of international peace and development for many years, and made important contributions to UN’s peacekeeping missions, solving of regional hot-spot issues and promoting of common development through South-South cooperation in particular. The UN expects to strengthen cooperation with China in broader fields such as sustainable development and dealing with climate change.
