Li Keqiang Meets with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the UN

On the afternoon of September 3, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations (UN) who was in China for the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War and an official visit.

Li Keqiang expressed that this year coincides with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Under the current international situation, the UN has played an important role in maintaining world peace and promoting common development. China will continue to support the work of the UN and the UN Secretary-General, and looks forward to and will actively push for significant consensuses from the series of summits that will be held by the UN this year, so as to safeguard the victorious results of the World Anti-Fascist War and the post-war international order and promote the cause of global peace and sustainable development for new progress and breakthroughs.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the main tasks facing the international community are to promote development and improve people’s livelihood. Therefore, it is vital to manage the relationship among stabilizing growth, reducing poverty and addressing climate change. China will keep increasing input in poverty reduction, strive for the best within its capability to address climate change and contribute with concrete actions to the implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

Ban Ki-moon said that this year is a key point for UN’s development. The UN speaks highly of China's important contributions to boosting economic development and reducing poverty within the country, and promoting peace, stability and development of the world. The UN expects and believes that China will play a greater role in promoting global sustainable development, addressing climate change and the like.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
