On September 3, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations (UN) who was in China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Wang Yi said that China, as the oriental main battlefield in the World Anti-Fascist War, made great national sacrifice and historical contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, which deserves not only the commemoration of Chinese people, but also that of the people in Asia and across the world. As later generations, we should bear history in mind, honor all those who laid down their lives, cherish peace and open up the future. The UN is an important product of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the UN Charter lays the foundation for the post-war international order. At this historical juncture linking the past and the future, the UN Secretary-General attending the commemorations in China demonstrated the recognition from the international community for China’s historical status in the World Anti-Fascist War and the respect for Chinese people’s great sacrifice and contributions.

Ban Ki-moon expressed that he feels proud to visit China at such a significant moment. China’s commemorative activities were very successful and fully demonstrated China’s positive attitudes of cherishing peace and looking into the future, which touched and impressed him deeply.
