On the afternoon of September 3, 2015, Vice Premier Liu Yandong met respectively with Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon and Special Envoy of Prime Minister and former Secretary of State for Justice Kenneth Clarke of the UK.

Liu Yandong welcomed Ban Ki-moon and Kenneth Clarke to attend the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in China. Liu Yandong expressed that the founding of the UN is an important result of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, and it is of special significance for Secretary General of the UN to attend the commemorations in China. China has made positive contributions to the founding and development of the UN, and is willing to further strengthen cooperation with the UN in health care, education, women, children and other fields to realize as early as possible the goal in the social field of the post-2015 development agenda. China stands ready to take the series of summits for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN as an opportunity to elevate the bilateral relations to a new historical height.

Ban Ki-moon expressed that he was glad to attend the commemorations on September 3 in China. Today is a day to be proud of by the Chinese nation. Over the past 70 years, China has made great achievements in development, which has benefited the whole world. The UN hopes to spread the successful experience of China and further enhance cooperation with China.

While meeting with Kenneth Clarke, Liu Yandong expressed that China and the UK made great contributions to the victory of World Anti-Fascist War. At present, as bilateral relations enjoy new and important opportunities for development, both sides should strive to push their relations for more achievements, so as to benefit the two peoples and the world.

Kenneth Clarke expressed that he felt very honored to attend the commemorations in China as Special Envoy of Prime Minister David Cameron of the UK. The UK and China were close allies in the World War II. The UK side looks forward to enhancing high-level exchanges and promoting practical cooperation in various fields with the Chinese side.
