Xi Jinping Meets with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar

On September 4, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that President U Thein Sein's special visit to China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War reflects the great importance you attach to the China-Myanmar relations. During the World War II, China was the main battlefield in the East, while Myanmar was also an important battlefield in Asia. Both peoples made great contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. By means of the commemorations, we are willing to join other countries to remember the history, honor the martyrs and safeguard the hard-won peace.

Xi Jinping stressed that as friendly neighbors for a long time, China and Myanmar have always shared weal and woe and helped each other. In my meeting with you this April, we unanimously agreed to give priority to the fundamental interests of the two peoples and firmly hold the correct development direction of the bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. China appreciates Myanmar's support to the "Belt and Road" initiatives, and is willing to cooperate closely with Myanmar to make coordinated promotion of cooperation in relevant programs thus play a positive role in promoting the economic and social development of Myanmar. China is also wiling to work with Myanmar to discuss measures to expand normal exchanges in economy, trade and people-to-people and cultural engagement in the border areas, thus better benefit both peoples. China will continue its assistance to Myanmar in its post-disaster reconstruction.

U Thein Sein said that the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War are of great success. Myanmar also suffered from aggression in the WWII, and the Myanmar people rose up in resistance. His visit to China to attend the commemorations is to work with China to remember the history and reveal to the world the importance he attaches to the Myanmar-China relations. Myanmar thanks China for giving plenty of help and support for a long time, and especially for China's timely aids to Myanmar in the rescue and relief when Myanmar suffered from floods recently. Myanmar is willing to continue deepening practical cooperation with China in various fields such as infrastructure connectivity.
