Li Keqiang Meets with President Martin Schulz of European Parliament

2015-06-29 16:43

On the morning of June 29 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met in Brussels with President Martin Schulz of the European Parliament.

Li Keqiang said that since China and the European Union (EU) established diplomatic relations 40 years ago, the bilateral relations have generally maintained a sound and stable development. I'm looking forward to co-chairing the seventeenth China-EU Summit and discussing new fields and new channels for deepening all-dimensional mutually beneficial cooperation with EU leaders, so as to promote China-EU relations and cooperation to a new level.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and the EU form a community of common destiny, and the two sides are the most important trade partners of each other. The Greek debt crisis is now at a critical stage. It is a concern not only for Europe, but also for China-EU relations and the world as a whole. China has rendered long-term and firm support to the European integration process, and will be a long-term responsible holder of European bonds as always. It is hoped that the Greek debt crisis could be addressed properly.

Li Keqiang stressed that the European Parliament exerts increasingly important influence and effect in EU affairs and China-EU relations. The deeper the development of China-EU relations is, the better the development of China's relations with the European Parliament should be. The two sides have decided to establish a mechanism of legal affairs dialogue, which will be conducive to enhancing mutual exchanges and understanding and consolidating the public opinion foundation of China-EU friendship.

Martin Schulz said that EU-China political and economic relations are very important not only to the present but also to the future. China plays an important role in promoting the balanced development of world economy and trade, regional security, climate change and other global issues. The EU highly appreciates China's active coping with climate change through developing green economy, strengthening legislation on environmental protection and other measures. The European Parliament is ready to enhance exchanges with the Chinese legislature to make contributions to the development of closer EU-China relations.
