Li Keqiang Holds Talks with Prime Minister Charles Michel of Belgium

On the morning of June 29 local time, Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Prime Minister Charles Michel of Belgium in Brussels.

Li Keqiang said that China-Belgium relations are established on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and the bilateral cooperation has been developing rapidly. China appreciates Belgium's adherence to the One China policy and is willing to consolidate political mutual trust and deepen practical cooperation in key areas with Belgium so as to elevate China-Belgium relations to a new high.

Li Keqiang stressed that China-Belgium cooperation enjoys marked complementary advantages and broad prospect. China is willing to work with Belgium to improve the all-dimensional connectivity layout covering land, sea and air to build Belgium into an important logistics center between China and Europe, support enterprises of both countries to increase mutual investment and provide mutual convenience, and encourage financial institutions of both countries to develop strategic cooperation so as to provide more powerful support for cooperation in entity economy. China is ready for tripartite cooperation in international production capacity and equipment manufacturing industry in Africa and other regions with Belgium to promote local industrialization, and closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges in education, scientific research, tourism, culture and others to make the bilateral friendship more deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples.

Li Keqiang pointed out that Belgium plays a part of special importance in the European Union (EU). China hopes that Belgium will bring into play its unique advantages and keep playing a positive role in the EU to promote greater development of China-EU relations.

Charles Michel said that Belgium and China witness frequent high-level mutual visits and are highly complementary in economic and trade cooperation. Belgium hopes to become the gateway for Chinese enterprises to invest in Europe, and is willing to work with China to expand bilateral direct flights to facilitate personnel exchanges, strengthen cooperation in such areas as medicine and health care, food processing, small and medium-sized enterprises, science and technology and e-commerce, and deepen exchanges and cooperation on coping with climate change. Belgium is willing to conduct third-party cooperation with China on the basis of mutual respect, which is not only favorable for Belgium and China, but also of realistic significance to European economic recovery. Belgium is willing to keep playing a positive role in the EU to push forward the continuous development of EU-China relations.

After the talks, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Charles Michel jointly witnessed the signing of twelve bilateral cooperation agreements in connectivity, finance, communications, microelectronics, education and others.
