On the afternoon of June 29 local time, Premier Li Keqiang mainly expounded the Chinese government’s position on Greece’s debt problems when meeting the press together with President Donald Tusk of the European Council and President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission after meeting with them.

Li Keqiang said that his visit to Europe coincides with the critical moment when the European Union (EU) confronts Greece’s debt problems. As the EU’s comprehensive strategic partner and important trading partner, I would like to reiterate on behalf of the Chinese government that China always supports the European integration process and expects to see a prosperous Europe, a united EU and a strong euro.

Li Keqiang pointed out that Greece’s debt problems are the internal affairs for Europe, yet Greece’s option of whether staying in the eurozone is related not only to the stability of the eurozone but also to world financial stability and economic recovery. We always maintain that the China-Greece relationship is part of the China-EU relationship. Thinking of the overall situation, China has made its own efforts in helping Greece overcome the sovereign debt crisis and responded to Greece’s concerns and requests in overcoming the crisis via practical actions.

Li Keqiang stressed that we are willing to see Greece’s staying in the eurozone, and appeal to international creditors and Greece to reach an early agreement and to make positive progress thus help both Greece and the eurozone weather the crisis. China is willing to play a constructive role in it.
