The 17th China-EU Leaders' Meeting Achieves Important Results

On the afternoon of June 29 local time, the 17th China-EU Leaders’ Meeting was held at the headquarters of the European Council in Brussels,. Premier Li Keqiang, President Donald Tusk of the European Council and President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission co-chaired the meeting.

The 17th China-EU Leaders’ Meeting achieved a series of important practical results. China and the EU issued a joint statement on the meeting and a joint statement on climate change, signed a number of cooperation documents covering such fields as science and technology, intellectual property, regional policy and customs and reached consensus on a broad range of issues.

China and the EU decided to link up the “Belt and Road” cooperation initiative put forward by China and the investment plan for Europe and agreed to establish China-EU mutual investment fund, build China-EU connectivity platform, reach a comprehensive China-EU investment agreement as early as possible, take the opportunity of the issuing of the joint statement on climate change to deepen the practical cooperation in this field, formulate the roadmap for cooperation in energy sources, deepen dialogue and cooperation in information and communication technologies, complete the negotiation and signing of the agreement on mutual visa exemption for diplomatic passport holders by the end of 2015, discuss the facilitation of visa issuing for businessman, tourists and students on a greater scale and establish a China-EU dialogue mechanism on legal affairs.

Li Keqiang set forth his ideas on international trilateral cooperation on production capacity between China and the EU and a third country, to which the EU side gave positive evaluation.

The two sides agreed to adhere to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and push forward the international order towards a more just and reasonable direction.

The two leaders also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues such as the Iranian nuclear issue, the Middle East issue and the issue of Afghanistan.
