Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia Hold Annual Regular Meeting, Agreeing to Accelerate Implementation of China-Australia FTA and Foster New Cooperation Highlights

On the afternoon of November 21 local time, Premier Li Keqiang held at the hotel where he stayed in Kuala Lumpur with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia an annual regular meeting.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Australia are both important countries in the Asia-Pacific region and are important cooperative partner of each other. The two sides deepening cooperation accords with the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples, and is also conducive to the regional peace, stability and prosperity. In the new situation, the Chinese side is willing to work with the Australian side to stick to the strategic and long-term perspective, constantly enhance political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and properly resolve divergences, so as to push China-Australia relations to a new height.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Australia enjoy broad cooperation prospects. China is willing to make joint efforts with Australia to endeavor to take the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) into effect as soon as possible by the end of this year and actively carry out the following-up implementation work. It is hoped that the two sides will raise the level of two-way investment. China welcomes more Australian enterprises to invest and conduct business in China, and hopes that Australia will provide more convenience to Chinese enterprises. The two countries should also combine their respective advantages to jointly conduct cooperation in production capacity in areas including energy resources, infrastructure, equipment manufacturing and maritime affairs, discuss to open up cooperation in the third-party markets, foster highlights of cooperation in new areas, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, continue to expand the implementation scale of the "New Colombo Plan" in China, and deepen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation at local level to provide more facilitation measures for exchanges between the two peoples.

Li Keqiang expressed that against the backdrop of weak global economic recovery, it is uneasy for China to maintain its economic growth within a reasonable range. China will continue to push forward structural reform and adjustment, foster new growth momentum and achieve a long-term, stable and healthy development of the economy. China will further expand opening-up, which will present new opportunities for deepening China-Australia cooperation.

Malcolm Turnbull said that Australia-China cooperation is becoming deeper and deeper and bilateral relations are becoming better and better. The signing of the FTA between the two countries marks a significant step in the development of bilateral relations, bringing substantial benefits to both sides. The Australian side appreciates the Chinese government's efforts in vigorously advancing reform, stimulating social vitality, initiatively integrating itself into the world economy and developing green economy, which are believed to benefit the global development. Australia stands ready to join hands with China to further increase mutual understanding, boost cooperation in various fields including politics, economy, people-to-people and cultural engagement, defense, urbanization construction, justice and law enforcement, so as to push bilateral relations towards a new height and bring real benefits to the two countries and two peoples.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern such as addressing climate change.
