Li Keqiang: Promote Urban Underground Infrastructure Construction

2015-09-09 10:49

On September 9, 2015, when having a discussion with representatives of Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs attending the Summer Davos Forum in Dalian, Premier Li Keqiang expressed that China will continue to rebuild shanty areas on a large scale and at the same time promote construction of urban underground infrastructure. China is now pushing the construction of underground comprehensive pipe gallery.

When answering a question raised by Patrice Motsepe, the founder and CEO of the African Rainbow Minerals of South Africa, Li Keqiang said that China’s urbanization rate is only 55% and a great number of Chinese people do not live their life entirely in cities. China’s industrialization and urbanization still requires a long process, which will create huge domestic demands. I am not saying that there are no problems in China’s rapid urbanization process, for example, a hundred million Chinese people are still living in shanty areas and we must offer them houses that meet modern standards.

Li Keqiang expressed that China still needs to further improve development plans for cities. China and the EU have established the urbanization partnership, and China will learn experience from not only developed countries but also developing countries and enhance cooperation with them in its urbanization process.
