Li Keqiang and President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil Hold a Joint Press Conference, Stressing to Pave a New Path in Production Capacity Cooperation Featuring Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Results

On the morning of May 19 local time, Premier Li Keqiang and President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil met the press in Brasília following their talks.

Li Keqiang noted that China and Brazil agreed to enhance cooperation in production capacity. After years of development, China has accumulated rich experience in infrastructure construction, obtained surplus advantageous production capacity, as well as equipment with high cost-performance. The bilateral cooperation in production capacity would help Brazil speed up its infrastructure construction, reduce cost, create jobs and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. China is willing to set up a joint fund for production capacity cooperation to finance bilateral cooperative projects. The two sides agreed to expand bilateral trade and optimize trade structure, improving the quality of imports and exports. Both sides also reached consensus on strengthening financial cooperation and pushing forward local currency settlement of cross-border trade. China supports a bigger role of Brazil in international affairs.

Li Keqiang stressed that in the context of the weak recovery of world economy and the increasing downturn pressure, strengthening cooperation between China and Brazil,as two major emerging economies in the world, will help build confidence for all emerging economies and contribute to the global economic recovery.

Dilma Rousseff noted that Brazil and China established the bilateral strategic cooperative relationship on a basis of equality and mutual trust. The two countries also have practical needs and strong willingness to strengthen mutually beneficial practical cooperation. Brazil stands ready to deepen bilateral cooperation in such traditional fields as energy, resources, metallurgy, manufacturing, aviation and aerospace and agriculture with an emphasis on infrastructure and production capacity cooperation, expand two-way trade and investment and strengthen financial cooperation. Both sides will continue to enhance close coordination and cooperation within such multilateral frameworks as the UN, G20 and BRICS countries, and play bigger roles in international and regional affairs.

Prior to the press conference, Li Keqiang and Dilma Rousseff attended the video ground-breaking ceremony for the ultra-high voltage electricity transmission project in the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam which is constructed by Chinese enterprise. The project, covering over 2,000 kilometers and running across majority of the Brazilian territory from North to South, is the first ultra-high voltage electricity transmission project that was won by a Chinese enterprise in overseas market. The heads on both sides of the project reported the readiness of the preparatory work via video link. Li Keqiang and Dilma Rousseff inaugurated the ground-breaking of the project.
