On the afternoon of May 20 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met in the hotel where he stayed with Mayor Eduardo Paes of Rio de Janeiro.

Over 200 years ago, Chinese tea farmers arrived in Rio de Janeiro and planted tea trees from the East, and sowed the seeds of China-Brazil friendship as well. Today, an increasing number of Chinese enterprises invest and develop in Rio de Janeiro and the light rail, subway, ferryboat and other equipment products made in China provide Rio de Janeiro citizens with tangible convenience in travel.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese government supports the two countries to conduct mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation at local level and strengthen exchanges of experience on hosting the Olympic Games, green development, energy conservation and emission reduction and so on, so as to add vitality to the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. Li Keqiang wished the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games a complete success.

Eduardo Paes warmly welcomed Li Keqiang to visit Rio de Janeiro City and expressed that Rio de Janeiro and China enjoy profound traditional friendship and well-developed cooperative relations. The Vista Chinesa (Chinese Belvedere) in Rio de Janeiro is a symbol of friendly exchanges between Chinese and Brazilian people. Rio de Janeiro is willing to learn from and draw on the successful experience of the Beijing Olympic Games, and strengthen cooperation with Chinese cities on addressing climate change and other issues.

On behalf of the municipal government and people of Rio de Janeiro City, Eduardo Paes conferred the Key of Rio de Janeiro to Li Keqiang.
