Li Keqiang and President Ollanta Humala Tasso of Peru Hold Talks, Stressing to Push China-Peru Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to Higher Level

On the afternoon of May 22 local time, Premier Li Keqiang and President Ollanta Humala Tasso of Peru held talks at the presidential palace in Lima.

Li Keqiang first conveyed sincere greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Ollanta Humala Tasso. He expressed that the Chinese government attaches high importance to bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, and will, on the basis of bilateral traditional friendship, make new breakthroughs in practical cooperation, enhance coordination in international and regional affairs, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning in culture and civilization, promote common development and prosperity of the two countries and other developing countries, and diversify world civilizations together with Peru.

Li Keqiang pointed out that both China and Peru are committed to developing economy, improving people's livelihood, and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, therefore, new opportunities have emerged in their joint efforts for common development. In the next stage, both sides could enhance prospective design for practical cooperation based on the free trade arrangement, promote production capacity as well as equipment cooperation in key fields, and forge industrial chains of up and down stream cooperation covering such areas as oil, clean energy, mining, agriculture, forestry and fishery. China will, in line with the needs and plans of Peru, make the best of its production capacity as well as technological advantages in such sectors as railway, port, electric power and telecommunication to take an active part in the "Two-Ocean Railway" and other major infrastructure projects, and strengthen technology transfer as well as experience exchange, so as to improve equipment supporting capacity in Peru's industrialization and expand employment in the country. China will also boost financial cooperation with Peru by exploring financing mode meeting demands of both sides as well as cooperation in such areas as local currency settlement and bilateral currency swap. The cooperation in production capacity and equipment between the two countries is open to the third party, and seeks win-win results between the two countries as well as multi-win results among various parties. It is hoped that Peru could offer more support and convenience for China-funded enterprises investing and developing in the country.

Ollanta Humala Tasso warmly welcomed Li Keqiang for his visit to Peru. He expressed that Peru highly values developing relations with China and will join efforts with China to advance bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. The planning and construction of the "Two-Ocean Railway" project are very important to economic development in Peru, Brazil, China as well as the region at large, and China's participation is indispensable. Peru welcomes China to expand industrial investment in mining and other sectors in Peru and to transfer technology to Peru, which will benefit Peru's industrialization process. Both sides boast huge cooperation potential in such areas as agriculture, fishery, housing construction and renewable energy, and could further deepen relevant cooperation. The two countries should also continue their exchanges in education, tourism and culture.

Following the talks, the two leaders together witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents covering such fields as production capacity, energy, mining, infrastructure construction, quarantine inspection, healthcare and aerospace. Both sides also issued a joint statement between the two governments.

Prior to the talks, President Ollanta Humala Tasso held a grand welcome ceremony for Li Keqiang at the square in front of the presidential palace. The courtesy horse guards escorted Li Keqiang's motorcade to the presidential palace. Li Keqiang then reviewed the guard of honor of the Peruvian army. President Ollanta Humala Tasso and his wife greeted Li Keqiang and his wife at the steps of the presidential palace, and the chorus sang the national anthems of both China and Peru in Chinese and Spanish respectively.
