Li Keqiang and President Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria of Chile Jointly Meet the Press

At noon on May 25 local time, Premier Li Keqiang and President Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria of Chile jointly met the press after holding talks at the presidential palace in Santiago.

Li Keqiang introduced the achievements of their talks and emphasized that during the visit new breakthroughs have been made in China-Chile financial cooperation. The two countries signed an agreement on currency swap and Santiago will be the first in Latin America to have a RMB clearing bank. The Chinese side grants the Chilean side a Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors (RQFII) quota of 50 billion Yuan. The two sides also signed agreements on avoidance of double taxation and others. The Chinese side welcomes the Chilean side to exempt Chinese tourists' visa application fee from this July and to facilitate visa application for Chinese citizens like businessmen. All these will promote practical cooperation between China and Chile as well as China and Latin America, and cast positive and far-reaching influence on enhancing bilateral personnel exchanges.

Li Keqiang expressed that at present the world economy recovers slowly and is still facing downward pressure. The vigorous deepening of cooperation between China and Chile in finance, taxation, production capacity and so forth will strongly promote two-way trade and investment, strengthen investment and financing exchanges, provide powerful mechanism guarantee and financing support to comprehensive upgrading of practical cooperation between China and Chile as well as China and Latin America, spur economic growth in the two countries and the region, as well as inject new vigor into the recovery of world economy.

Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria expressed that though Chile and China are far apart, the friendship between the two countries is profound. The vast Pacific Ocean links us closely together, and bilateral cooperation will embrace more new opportunities. The fruitful results of Premier Li Keqiang's visit are another milestone in the development history of bilateral relations, which will forcefully push Chile-China relations and cooperation for greater development. The Chilean side is willing to work with the Chinese side to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen free trade cooperation, promote mutual investment, facilitate personnel exchanges, and push bilateral relations for faster and better development.
