Li Keqiang Meets with Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena Ibarra of ECLAC

On the afternoon of May 25 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met in Santiago with Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena Ibarra of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). President Michelle Bachelet of Chile attended the meeting.

Li Keqiang said that China highly appreciates the long-term support that the ECLAC has provided to Latin America and the developing countries in exploring a development road suitable for their own national realities and the important role that the ECLAC has played. In recent years, the China-Latin America relations have achieved leapfrog development with a continuous deepening of cooperation in fields such as politics, economy, trade and people-to-people and cultural engagement and mutual support in international and regional affairs, effectively promoting the common development of relevant countries and peace and prosperity of the world.

Li Keqiang pointed out that during my visits to the four Latin American countries, I have reached broad consensus with leaders of the countries on deepening the bilateral relations, upgrading practical cooperation and promoting regional development. China is willing to work with the Latin American and Caribbean countries to tap their respective advantages, dock their development strategies and focus on expanding cooperation in fields such as production capacity, equipment manufacturing, infrastructure construction and finance, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results between the two sides and boost the process of world economic recovery.

Alicia Bárcena Ibarra and Michelle Bachelet spoke highly of Li Keqiang's visits. Alicia Bárcena Ibarra said that Latin America and China boast long-term friendship, face common tasks of promoting growth, adjusting structure and seeking development, and enjoy broad prospects in cooperation. Premier Li Keqiang's visits have gained a complete success and wide attention, opening a new chapter in the Latin America-China relations. She expected that the future practical cooperation between Latin America and China will go beyond general trade contacts and extend to more fields such as mutual investment and financial cooperation. The ECLAC is willing to maintain close communication and cooperation with China and actively promote a continuous deepening of Latin America-China comprehensive strategic cooperation.
