2015-11-01 10:10

On the evening of November 1 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met at the hotel where he stayed in Seoul with Prime Minister Shinzō Abe of Japan at request, who was in the Republic of Korea (ROK) to attend the sixth Trilateral Leaders' Meeting of China, Japan and. the ROK.

Li Keqiang noted that China and Japan are countries with important influence in Asia and the world at large. In the past years, due to the reasons that Japan well knows, the China-Japan relations hit a rough patch. The severe lessons should be seriously summarized and drawn from. Since the end of last year, with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Japan relations have gradually stepped out of the deadlock and maintained a momentum of recovery. In the meantime, sensitivity and complexity remains prominent in bilateral relations, and there is still a long way to go for bilateral relations to return to the normal track. Both sides should focus on the following work:

First is to firmly grasp the big picture of bilateral relations. China proposes to, in the principles and spirits of the four political documents between China and Japan, comprehensively implement the four-point principled agreement reached by both sides last year, and continue promoting the China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit by following the spirit of taking history as a mirror and facing up to the future. China hopes Japan adopt a positive China policy and meet with China halfway, so as to improve bilateral relationship in a sustained and steady manner.

Second is to properly handle and manage the sensitive issues. Historical issues closely relate to the political foundation of China-Japan relationship and the national sentiment of 1.3 billion Chinese people. It is hoped that Japan can be fully aware of the high sensitivity of the issues and will honor its solemn commitment by facing up to and reflecting on history and dealing with relevant issues with a responsible attitude.

Third is to cultivate mutual trust. Both sides should earnestly put into practice the principle of defining each other as "China and Japan being cooperative partners that pose no threat to each other" and "supporting each other's peaceful development", which is specified in the four political documents between China and Japan. China will unswervingly stick to the path of peaceful development, and hopes Japan could continue pursuing a path of peaceful development, respect the concerns of its Asian neighbors in the field of military and security and contribute more to the peace and stability of the region.

Fourth is to deepen practical exchanges and cooperation. As the second and third largest economies in the world respectively, given the backdrop of the weak recovery of global economy, it is necessary for the two countries to enhance communication over their macro-economic policies so as to cope with challenges together.

Shinzō Abe said that Japan and China, both shoulder responsibilities of promoting regional peace and stability and boosting the development of world economy, should make joint contributions to this end. He is willing to further improve and develop Japan-China relations based on the four political documents between the two countries and in the basic concept of establishing Japan-China strategic relationship of mutual benefit. Japan will continue to pursue peaceful development based on its reflection of the World War II, and adhere to the defensive defense policy. China's economic development, which draws much attention worldwide, is very important to Japan's economic growth. As major economies in the world, Japan and China enhancing economic relations is highly beneficial. Japan is ready to further boost bilateral cooperation in finance, energy conservation, environmental protection and other sectors. Japan are neighbor of China and the ROK, and the three sides should boost cooperation to promote their common development and economic integration. Japan is willing to carry out active negotiation with China to reach a comprehensive and high-level Japan-China-ROK free trade agreement at an early date.
