Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia

On March 27, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia at the Boao State Guest House in Hainan Province.

Xi Jinping welcomed Najib Razak to attend the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2015 in China. Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Malaysia relations are at their best period in history. Both sides work together to promote practical cooperation in various areas and successfully handle the challenges brought by emergencies. I hope to enhance communication and coordination with you to constantly push bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership for more fruitful results.

Xi Jinping stressed that leaders of China and Malaysia should maintain smooth communication and coordination, and exchange views on topics of common interest in a timely manner. Both countries should adhere to the principle of mutual respect and mutual trust and take care of each other’s major concerns. The two sides should continue to deepen cooperation in industrial parks, railway, finance, law enforcement, defense and security to jointly safeguard security and stability. The two countries should encourage more exchanges between students and the youth, support friendly relations and practical cooperation between local regions, and enhance coordination and cooperation in international affairs.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Malaysia has assumed the rotating presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). China will continue to support the building of the ASEAN community and support the ASEAN to play a leading role in East Asian cooperation. This year, China and the ASEAN will formulate the third Plan of Action of Joint Declaration on the Implementation of China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership, launch the Year of China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation and boost the building of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The Chinese side hopes Malaysia will play its due role as rotating presidency of the ASEAN so as to promote China-ASEAN relations for substantial progress.

Najib Razak expressed that China is a diplomatic priority of Malaysia and Malaysia attaches great importance to Malaysia-China relations. At present, the relations between the two countries grow in a comprehensive and robust way and will continue to be strengthened and enhanced. The Malaysian side is grateful to China for all its assistance at international and bilateral levels and is willing to work with China to constantly deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership. It is hoped that both countries could expand economic and trade exchanges, strengthen provincial/state exchanges, facilitate personnel visits and continue carrying out defense and law-enforcement cooperation. Malaysia welcomes the Bank of China to set up RMB clearing bank in Malaysia and supports the initiatives of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road put forward by China. Malaysia will deal with problems emerging in bilateral relations with a diplomatic and practical approach. Malaysia is willing to promote further development of ASEAN-China relations and cooperation in various fields during its rotating presidency of the ASEAN, and to promote ASEAN members to actively participate in the building of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
