On March 30, 2015, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met with Governor-General Peter Cosgrove of Australia at the Great Hall of the People.

Zhang Dejiang said that since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Australia 43 years ago, the level of cooperation has been continuously improved in all fields, and the bilateral relations are increasingly taking on a strategic, practical and comprehensive significance. During President Xi Jinping's visit to Australia last November, both sides lifted the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. China is willing to join efforts with Australia to keep the development of the bilateral relations towards the right direction, respect each other, seek common ground while reserving differences, focus on the common interests and expand practical cooperation. Over recent years, China's NPC and Australia's Parliament have had increasingly closer contacts. The two sides should further deepen exchanges and cooperation, enrich the connotation of cooperation, and successfully hold the upcoming sixth meeting of the China-Australia parliamentary regular exchange mechanism, so as to jointly push forward the development of China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Peter Cosgrove said that the Australia-China relations enjoy a sound development, and Australia is willing to enhance legislature exchanges and practical cooperation in all fields with China.

Wang Chen attended the meeting.
