In the afternoon of March 30, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Governor-General Peter Cosgrove of Australia who was in China for a state visit and attendance of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2015.

Li Keqiang said that the current China-Australia relations enjoy a sound development, and both countries are devoted to maintaining regional and world peace and stability. President Xi Jinping and Mr. Governor-General attended the BFA Annual Conference 2015 together. China is willing to enhance strategic mutual trust with Australia, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen dialogues and exchanges in areas such as people-to-people and cultural engagement to constantly open up new outlooks of the bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang stressed that the Chinese and Australian economies are highly complementary, and economic and trade cooperation serves as an important impetus for the China-Australia relations. Both sides should make joint efforts to promote a sustainable and diversified development of the bilateral trade and investment cooperation, and sign and implement the China-Australia free trade agreement (FTA) as soon as possible. China welcomes Australian enterprises and banks to increase the use of the RMB in bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation, and continue to push forward a market-oriented development of the off-shore RMB market in Sydney. Both sides should expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges in fields such as education, culture and tourism to encourage more people of both countries to participate in and support the development of the China-Australia relations.

Peter Cosgrove said that he is very glad to visit China and attend the BFA Annual Conference on his first overseas visit. The development in the Asia-Pacific region is full of vitality. There is a huge potential for Australia-China economic, trade and investment cooperation as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Australia expects an early signing of the bilateral FTA to promote a further development of the bilateral economic and trade relations. Australia has applied to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and hopes for a good operation of the AIIB.
