Zhang Dejiang Meets with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda

On March 31, 2015, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met with President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda at the Great Hall of the People.

Zhang Dejiang said that China and Uganda always share equality, mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual help, with cooperation being continuously deepened in various fields. The bilateral relations have become a model of mutual benefits, win-win results and common development between China and Africa. At present, China-Uganda cooperation is facing good opportunities and promising prospects. China’s NPC is willing to further deepen the cooperation with the National Assembly of Uganda, comprehensively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation signed by the two sides, strengthen friendly exchanges at all levels, make efforts in conducting exchanges and mutual learning in fields such as legislative supervision and governance and administration of state affairs, and promote the Investment Protection Agreement and the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement between the two countries to come into force, so as to provide a firm legal guarantee for the expansion of practical cooperation and better serve the overall development of China-Uganda friendly relations.

Yoweri Museveni said that Uganda thanks China for the strong support it has provided in Uganda’s anti-colonial struggle and development course, and looks forward to further strengthening practical cooperation with China and conducting closer legislative cooperation.
