The Two Heads of State Agree to Intensify Bilateral Strategic Coordination, Jointly Safeguard World Peace and International Fairness and Justice, and Make Efforts to Connect the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU)

On May 8 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Vladimir Putin of Russia at the Kremlin in Moscow. Vladimir Putin extended his warm welcome to Xi Jinping for his attendance of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War and visit to Russia upon invitation. Xi Jinping expressed his gratitude to Vladimir Putin for his kind invitation. In a kind and friendly atmosphere, the two heads of state fully exchanged views on China-Russia relations and major international and regional topics of common interest, agreeing that China and Russia will jointly safeguard the outcome of the victory of the World War II, uphold international fairness and justice and make efforts to connect the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

Xi Jinping pointed out that he is pleased to attend the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow. China and Russia, respectively as the major battlefields of Asia and Europe during the World War II, made great sacrifice and important contribution to the final victory of the War, during which the two peoples fought shoulder to shoulder and forged profound friendship. Both China and Russia will hold a series of celebrations and commemorative events this year to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World War II, so as to remember the history, cherish the memory of martyrs, and work with the people of all other nations to treasure and maintain the hard-won peace and create a bright future for peace and development of all the mankind.

Xi Jinping stressed that China stands ready to deepen traditional friendship with the Russian people, promote the docking of the strategies between both sides, blueprint a new future for bilateral friendly cooperation, keep the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination developing at a high level, promote the international order towards a more just and reasonable direction, and maintain peace, security and stability in the region and the world at large.

Vladimir Putin spoke highly of the development of Russia-China relations, noting that Russia and China are comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in a true sense and have scored fruitful results in exchanges and cooperation in all fields and at various levels.

Vladimir Putin noted that he fully agrees to President Xi Jinping's comments on the historic contributions made by Russia and China in the World War II. The two nations will hold celebrations and commemorative events this year to oppose any attempt to deny or distort the history and condemn any practice to whitewash Nazis and militarists or to smear the liberators.

With regards to the China-Russia practical cooperation, the two heads of state agreed to connect the initiative of the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt put forward by the Chinese side with the construction of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) of the Russian side, comprehensively boost and deepen bilateral practical cooperation from a strategic perspective and with a broader view, expand opening-up to each other, deepen the convergence of interests, better facilitate the development and revitalization of the two nations, and expand the economic space shared by Europe and Asia, so as to inject impetus to the development and stability of the whole Eurasian continent.

The two heads of state reached consensus on tapping cooperation potential and advantages, intensifying bilateral cooperation in energy, agriculture, high-speed railway, aerospace, aviation, finance and investment, infrastructure construction, development of Far East region and other fields, boosting cooperation in such people-to-people and cultural sectors as education, culture, health care and tourism, continuing efforts in ensuring the success of the China-Russia Youth Friendly Exchanges Year as well as the exchange year of the media, and actively strengthening the exchanges between the two armies.

The two heads of state agreed on strengthening cooperation within the frameworks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) , BRICS members as well as the G20. Both sides also exchanged views on situation on Korean Peninsula, the Iranian nuclear issue and other international and regional issues of common interest, agreeing to keep close communication and coordination on relevant issues.

Following the talks, the two heads of state together signed and issued the Joint Statement between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination and Advocating Win-win Cooperation as well as the Joint Statement on Cooperation of Connection Between the Silk Road Economic Belt and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents covering energy, transportation, aviation, finance, new media and other sectors.

The two heads of state also met the press after the signing ceremony.

On the same day, Xi Jinping also had kind talks with Patriarch Kirill of Russian Orthodox Church.

Wang Huning, Fan Changlong, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at above-mentioned events respectively.
