On May 9 local time, Russia held grand celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War. President Xi Jinping and leaders from about 20 countries and regions as well as international organizations worldwide attended the celebrations to celebrate this glorious occasion along with the Russian people.

In May, Moscow boasts luxuriant vegetation and fluttering banners and flags, and the time-honored Red Square is covered with solemnity and serenity. Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan arrived at the Kremlin and shook hands with President Vladimir Putin of Russia waiting there. After that, with the accompany of President Putin, Xi Jinping and his wife walked to the Red Square along with other distinguished guests present at the celebrations. They stepped onto the reviewing stand and attended the military parade at the Red Square.

At ten o'clock, with the bells ringing in the Kremlin, the celebrations began. The military band played the music of Sacred War and the guard of honor convoyed the national flag of Russia into the Square.

President Putin delivered a speech. He said that the victory of the Great Patriotic War determined the progress of World War II and liberated European people from Hitler's fascist rule. On this sacred day of commemoration, they cherished the memory of the older generations who fought side by side and defeated the dark forces. Putin pointed out in his speech that as the main battlefield for fighting against militarism in Asia, China paid the price of millions of lives. History taught us lessons about the future. The reason why we commemorate this occasion today is to build a peaceful and tranquil future on the basis of equality, security, and nonalignment.

Then, the military band played Russia's national anthem, the gun salute went off at the Red Square and the huge military parade began. The square team to be reviewed, which is composed of over 15,000 soldiers, walked through the Red Square in high spirits with orderly and powerful parade steps. In the "History" part of the military parade, the soldiers of Russia's army, navy and air force wore the military uniforms in the Great Patriotic War and held army flags in those years, which reminded people of war times. In the "Modern Times" part of the military parade, the square teams of various services and arms as well as modern weapons and equipment of Russia passed before the reviewing stand grandly, which showed the qualities of armed forces of modern Russia. The roaring fighters flew over the Red Square and the music of V-Day echoed in the sky.

The square teams of China, India, the Commonwealth of Independent States and other countries attended the military parade. Watched by tens of thousands of people, the honor guard of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, consisting of 102 people, walked through the Red Square. It was the first time that China had sent the guard of honor to attend the militarily parade on the Red Square. With the song of Katyusha, the troops of the honor guard marched in gallant array with high morale as well as firm and forceful steps, which showed the power of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the People's Republic of China. Xi Jinping stood up to wave to them.

After the celebrations, Xi Jinping and his wife, together with leaders of other delegations and their spouses, left the Red Square and came to the Alexander Garden. They laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and stood in silent tribute. Then the leaders of delegations and their spouses posed for a group photo.

May 9 marks the day of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War. 70 years ago, the army and the people of the Soviet Union fought dauntlessly to drive the German fascists out of their homeland and went on with soldiers and civilians from other countries to conquer Berlin, wining victory in the battlefield of the World Anti-fascist War in Europe.
