Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia

On May 9 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia in Moscow.

Xi Jinping said that the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War at the Red Square once again showed the new achievements ,made by the Russian people in the cause of the national development, and also declared its faith to the whole world to maintain world peace with other countries. China and Russia respectively holding celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression as well as the victory of the Anti-fascist War this year is meant to summarize history, cherish the memory of martyrs, maintain peace and display cautions to the future.

Xi Jinping stressed 'this is the fourth time that I have paid a visit to Russia during the two-odd years serving as President of China. Yesterday, I had a broad and in-depth talk with President Vladimir Putin and reached high consensus on the direction of the development of bilateral relations under the new situation. We agreed to continuously maintain high level development of China-Russia relations. In terms of developing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, China and Russia enjoy firm political consensus, solid public support and strong endogenous momentum. Yesterday, I met with a group of representatives of experts who aided China and their relatives. The Chinese people will never forget the contributions made by the Russian experts to the construction and development of China. The friendship between China and Russia will be inherited forever.'

Xi Jinping pointed out 'since I proposed the initiative of building the Silk Road Economic Belt in September, 2013, Russian friends have responded actively. President Putin and I agreed to integrate the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt with that of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which is beneficial to both sides in deepening integration of interests and better promoting the development and revival of both countries. I hope that both sides could continuously tap the great potential of practical cooperation between the two countries so as to yield more visible and tangible results, bringing more benefits to the two peoples. Both sides should expand economic and trade cooperation, push the cooperation of major projects in such fields as high-speed rails, aviation and aerospace into implementation at an early date, strengthen regional cooperation in the Far East region as well as financial cooperation, and make good use of platforms of investment and financing such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Silk Road Fund. We are willing to work with the Russian side to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to ensure the success of the China-Russia Media Exchange Years of 2016 and 2017. '

Medvedev said that he thanked President Xi for attending the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow. He had earnestly read Xi Jinping's article published immediately before his visit to Russia and completely agreed with Xi Jinping that forgetting history means betrayal. Russia and China, the two great nations, have made remarkable contributions in the fight against fascism and militarism. In the military parade at the Red Square which ended just now, the troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army were very impressive.

Medvedev said that at present, Russia-China relations are at the best in history, and the two countries keep close communication and coordination in all fields and at all levels. Yesterday, President Xi Jinping and President Putin reached an important consensus and both governments should make efforts for its implementation. Russia is willing to work with China to expand cooperation in such fields as investment, finance and energy, and promote the integration of the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt with the development of the EAEU. They are willing to strengthen people-to-people and cultural as well as military-to-military exchanges with China.
