2015-05-10 19:21

On May 10 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, starting his state visit to Belarus.

At about 11 a.m. local time, Xi Jinping's special plane arrived at the Minsk National Airport. When Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan walked out of the cabin door, the Belarusian youth, in accordance with the local etiquette for welcoming the most honorable guests, presented bread, salt and flowers to Xi Jinping and his wife by the gangway ladder. Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan respectively broke off a small piece of the bread, dipped them with salt and had a taste. President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, together with senior officials from the Belarusian government, personally went up to the gangway ladder and had a warm handshake with Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan. Guards of courtesy lined up on both sides of the red carpet, saluting with eyes. The Belarusian youth waved national flags of China and Belarus, showing a warm welcome to Xi Jinping's visit. Xi Jinping and his wife walked to the youth, shaking hands with them sincerely.

Xi Jinping conveyed the sincere regards and best wishes of the Chinese people to the Belarusian people. He pointed out that China-Belarus friendship enjoys a time-honored history. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have kept a continuous, healthy and stable development, practical cooperation in all fields has been advanced smoothly, and friendship between the two peoples has been continually consolidated and developed. The Chinese side is satisfied with the development status of China-Belarus relations, and is fully confident of the development prospect of bilateral relations. We stand ready to work with the Belarusian side to advance the China-Belarus comprehensive strategic partnership to a new high. During the visit, I would exchange in-depth views with President Alexander Lukashenko and other Belarusian leaders on deepening China-Belarus relations as well as on international and regional topics of common interest. I would also meet with representatives of the Belarusian veterans who fought in World War II, and extend tribute to their contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. I sincerely wish that this visit could sow the seed of hope in China-Belarus relations and bear fruits, so as to benefit the two peoples.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and other delegation members arrived by the same plane.

H.E. Cui Qiming, Chinese Ambassador to Belarus also greeted the delegation at the airport.

Xi Jinping arrived in Minsk after his attendance of celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of victory of the Great Patriotic War and his visit to Russia. When he was leaving Moscow, the Russian government held a send-off ceremony at the airport. Xi Jinping inspected the guards of honor of the three armed forces and watched the march-past. Senior officials from the Russian government saw Xi Jinping off at the airport.
