Xi Jinping Meets with President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil

On July 9 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Ufa, Russia with President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership has made a constant and rapid development over recent years, and the two countries have become "good friends" and "good partners" featuring win-win cooperation and common development. The two sides have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, constantly scored new achievements in mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation and kept close dialogue and coordination in major international and regional affairs. The comprehensive and strategic significance of China-Brazil relations is now increasingly prominent and the China-Brazil relationship has grown into a towering and flourishing tree with more vigor.

Xi Jinping stressed that China always attaches great importance to and advances the China-Brazil ties from a strategic height. China is willing to work together with Brazil to, by upholding the principle of insisting on cooperation and focusing on development, cement multi-faceted exchanges, constantly improve economic and trade cooperation, optimize trade structure, facilitate constant and stable growth of bilateral trade, enhance industrial investment cooperation in the sectors such as infrastructure construction, oil and gas, electricity, clean energy, equipment manufacturing, as well as agriculture and cement financial cooperation. China is willing to enhance coordination with Brazil in international organizations and under multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Group of 20 and BRICS, so as to jointly promote the international system towards a fairer and more reasonable direction and safeguard the overall interests of developing countries.

Dilma Rousseff noted that China is the largest trading partner of Brazil, with the two being respectively the largest developing countries in the eastern and western hemisphere. In recent years, the two nations maintained frequent high-level exchanges and mapped out the mid-term and long-term plan for the development of the bilateral relations. Both sides should join efforts to earnestly implement the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and continue to boost cooperation on trade, investment, finance, science and technology, astronautics, education, agricultural product, new energy, airplane manufacture, infrastructure construction and other fields. Brazil is grateful to China for its support for Brazil's efforts to be a founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and stands ready to strengthen coordination with China on addressing the problem of climate change.

Xi Jinping said that China attaches great importance to Brazil's important role in Latin American affairs and is willing to work together with Brazil to promote the cooperation between China and Latin America as a whole, and to advance the China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring equality, mutual benefit and common development in a sustained way. Dilma Rousseff expressed that Brazil appreciates China’s positive efforts in developing friendly cooperation with the Latin American countries and is ready to work for the comprehensive development of the Latin America-China relations.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi, Zhou Xiaochuan, and others were present at the meeting.
