Xi Jinping Attends Dialogue Between Leaders of BRICS Countries, the EEU, the SCO Members and Observers and the Invited Countries

On July 9 local time, the dialogue between leaders of the BRICS countries, the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members and observers and the invited countries was held in Ufa, Russia. President Xi Jinping, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, President Jacob Zuma of South Africa, President Serzh Sargsyan of Armenia, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, President Hassan Rouhani of Iran, President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of Mongolia, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan, President Emomalii Rahmon of Tajikistan, President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan and others attended the dialogue.

The participating leaders held discussions on the theme of bettering people's livelihood and jointly talked on unity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.

Xi Jinping emphasized in his speech that the BRICS, the SCO and the EEU are all influential mechanisms of cooperation in the world, and the gathering of the state leaders has sent out a positive signal of unity and cooperation of emerging markets and other developing countries. Despite of different histories, traditions, cultural backgrounds and social systems, all participating countries shoulder the important missions of developing economy, maintaining stability and bettering people's livelihood. These countries should take a strategic and long-term perspective, stay together and help each other in times of difficulties to forge a partnership of win-win cooperation, a security pattern featuring enduring stability, a development pattern with mutual benefit and win-win results, a multi-dimensional connectivity pattern and a regional cooperation pattern featuring openness and inclusiveness.

Xi Jinping pointed out that after the Chinese side put forward initiatives of building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, all parties responded positively. Recently, centering on the Belt and Road initiatives, the Chinese side has actively connected with the international community to promote the launching of specific cooperation projects in a practical manner. The establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund is one of the important measures. There are multiple converging points between many development strategies or initiatives put forward by various countries and the Belt and Road initiatives and we absolutely can conduct mutually beneficial cooperation to realize common development.

Vladimir Putin and other participating leaders expressed that the Eurasian continent abounds with resources and has a large number of emerging economies. BRICS countries share similar development missions with other countries in the region and maintaining communication among the leaders will help the international society join efforts to cope with challenges in world today and is also conducive to the process of multi-polarization. All parties should be committed to safeguarding the peaceful and stable order in the region as well as eliminating poverty and backwardness, enhance regional connectivity and economic integration, expand trade and investment, improve self-competitiveness through mutually beneficial cooperation and elevate people's livelihood. All nations should jointly fight against transnational crimes such as terrorism and drug trafficking. It is necessary for BRICS countries, SCO member states and countries in the Eurasian region to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, which will help promote mutual understanding and friendship among peoples of the countries concerned.
