Xi Jinping Meets with Pakistani Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani and Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq

On April 21 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Islamabad with Pakistani Chairman Senate and Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the traditional friendship between China and Pakistan is elaborately fostered by generations of leaders and people from all circles of both countries and has become the common treasure cherished by the two peoples. We have the responsibility to earnestly safeguard, consolidate and develop the traditional friendship, so as to make it pass on from generation to generation. I held a fruitful talk with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday, agreeing to uplift the China-Pakistan relations to an all-weather strategic partnership of cooperation. We also witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation agreements and documents, which symbolize a substantial progress in the construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Xi Jinping stressed that the Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan are firm defender and active promoter of China-Pakistan relationship. The legislative bodies of the two sides should intensify cooperation to continuously play a positive role in the cause of China-Pakistan friendship.

Mian Raza Rabbani and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed that the development of relations with China, which enjoys a profound public opinion foundation, is the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy. The smooth construction of the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor not only conduces to both Pakistan and China, but also benefits the region at large, injecting impetus into the great initiative of the “Belt and Road”. The Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan are willing to make efforts to further promote the exchanges between the parliaments of the two nations so as to boost mutual understanding and trust.
