On April 22, 2015, President Xi Jinping met in Jakarta with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan at his request, exchanging views on China-Japan relations.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the general principle for handling the China-Japan relations is to strictly follow the spirit of the Four Political Documents reached between China and Japan, so as to ensure the bilateral relations develop on a right track. The Four-Point Principled Agreement between China and Japan last year reflects the philosophy in a concentrated manner. The history issue is a major matter of principle concerning the political foundation of the China-Japan relations. It is hoped that Japan could seriously treat the concerns of its Asian neighbors and send out positive signals on facing up to the history issue.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Japan should pursue a positive policy toward each other. China stands ready to enhance dialogues and communication with Japan, build up mutual trust and reduce doubts and take joint steps to translate the consensus that "China and Japan are partners that do not impose a threat to each other" in the fourth political document between China and Japan into a common social consensus. The two countries should maintain communication in various fields to enhance mutual understanding and acknowledgement between the two peoples. China's initiatives of the Silk Road Economic Belt, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank have been echoed positively worldwide.

Xi Jinping noted that peace, development and win-win cooperation represent the irreversible trend of the times. China will firmly stick to the path of peaceful development. It is hoped that Japan could work together with China to move forward along the path of peaceful development and make more contribution to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world at large. The leaders of the two countries should shoulder their due responsibilities for this.

Shinzo Abe noted that he is pleased to meet with President Xi Jinping again and eagerly looks forward to improving Japan-China relations. The development of Japan-China relations conduces to both the two peoples and the peace and development in the world. He totally agrees that Japan and China do not impose a threat to each other in their development. Japan stands ready to implement the Four-Point Principled Agreement reached between the two sides last year, actively promote bilateral exchanges and dialogues in all fields, and enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples. He and the Japanese Cabinet have promised in many occasions that they will continue to stick to Murayama Statement and other philosophies the previous Japanese governments held on the historical issue. This stance will never change. Japan is determined to pursue a peaceful development path. Japan has realized the huge demands for infrastructure investments of Asia and is ready to discuss with China on issues related to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) based on this acknowledgement.
