Xi Jinping Meets with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran

On April 23 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Jakarta with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.

Xi Jinping stressed that China pays high attention to developing relations with Iran. Bilateral relations are now standing at an important period of inheriting the past and ushering into the future. Both sides should keep high-level contacts and exchanges in all fields, enhance strategic mutual trust, and expand bilateral practical and mutually beneficial cooperation to more areas with emphasis on the construction of Belt and Road and on the basis of connectivity and industrial cooperation. China will carry out long-term stable cooperation with Iran in the energy field, and expand cooperation in such fields as high-speed rail, highways, construction materials, light textile, telecommunications, electric power and engineering machinery, so as to connect advantageous industries, high-quality resources and sound markets of the two countries. Both countries should enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples with an aim to deepen friendship between the two peoples.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Iran and the six countries reached consensus at the negotiation on the Iranian nuclear issue not long ago, which is a positive step made by all parties toward a comprehensive agreement. China will continue to keep communication with all parties concerned including Iran and to play a constructive role in the negotiation thus to reach an early comprehensive agreement featuring justice, balance, mutual benefits and win-win results.

Hassan Rouhani said that he is very glad to meet again and exchange views on issues of common concern with President Xi Jinping. Iran and China enjoy a time-honored and profound traditional friendship and Iran will deepen exchanges and cooperation in all fields with China. At present, the vast Asian and African developing countries including Iran and China are facing common development tasks and challenges in economic and social development. Iran hopes to expand bilateral cooperation in the infrastructure fields such as energy, science, technology, railway and port.

Hassan Rouhani expressed that Iran highly values the progress achieved at the negotiation on the Iranian nuclear issue, and hopes all the negotiating parties earnestly abide by the consensus between the six countries and Iran to ensure reaching of a comprehensive agreement.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
