2015-04-23 17:35

On April 23 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Jakarta with Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the meeting between then-Premier Zhou Enlai and late King Father Norodom Sihanouk 60 years ago opened up the new chapter for China-Cambodia friendship. The joint attendance of the Asian-African Summit and activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference by Mr. Prime Minister and me today is of special significance. We should devote to advancing the cause of China-Cambodia friendship, so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Xi Jinping stressed that the China-Cambodia relations are now blessed with vital development opportunities. China will unwaveringly advance comprehensive strategic cooperation with Cambodia and firmly support Cambodia's efforts to maintain stability and development. China and Cambodia should maintain close high-level exchanges, deepen exchange of experience in governance and administration of state affairs, bring the role of China-Cambodia Inter-governmental Coordination Committee into full play, facilitate collaboration in traditional fields, boost cooperation in infrastructure connectivity within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives and maintain proper operation of the Sihanoukville Port Special Economic Zone. China will continue offering assistance within its capacity for Cambodia's economic and social development, and actively consider beefing up bilateral cooperation in public health, irrigation works, disaster relief and other sectors. The people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two sides should also be intensified. China is ready to host another Cambodian 100-youth delegation this year, and will continue to provide scholarships for Cambodian students intent on pursuing education in China. China is ready to enhance dialogues and cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members and the countries along the Mekong River, and supports the construction of the ASEAN community.

Hun Sen noted that he completely agrees with the comments on Cambodia-China relationship made by President Xi Jinping. The Cambodian side stands ready to continue working with China to carry forward the traditional bilateral friendship jointly forged and nurtured by the older generations of the leaders of the two countries. At present, the two countries maintain a sound communication in various fields. Cambodia hopes to continue pushing forward mutually beneficial cooperation with China in social and economic development areas. It is hoped that the two nations could boost connectivity construction of water and aerial transport infrastructure and expand the cooperation in such areas as health care, agriculture and disaster relief under the Belt and Road framework. Cambodia will maintain communication and coordination with China on regional and global issues of common concern and support the dialogue and cooperation between the ASEAN nations and China.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
