On September 23 local time, President Xi Jinping visited the headquarters of Microsoft Corporation of the US.

At about 3:15 p.m. local time, Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan came to the headquarters of Microsoft Corporation by car, and were warmly received by Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Corporation Satya Nadella, the founder Bill Gates and his wife, and Chairman of the Board John W. Thompson. The corporation staff representatives lined up and applauded to welcome them.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since Microsoft Corporation officially started operating in China in 1995, its business in China has been expanding rapidly, which also has promoted the development of China's information technology industry. At present, scientific and technological innovations are becoming an essential impetus in China's economic growth, which brings huge business opportunities to US science and technology enterprises including Microsoft. China will stick to reform and opening up and continues to welcome foreign enterprises to do business in China.

Satya Nadella introduced to Xi Jinping and Mme. Peng Liyuan on Microsoft Corporation's recent development in China. At the Envisioning Center of Microsoft Corporation, engineers demonstrated to Xi Jinping and Mme. Peng Liyuan the motorcycle model designed with the 3D holographic computer "HoloLens" and the visualization system of US meteorological data, as well as ecosystem hardware products made by Chinese companies using the technology of Microsoft. Xi Jinping watched the demonstrations with great interest and expressed his hope that Microsoft can deepen cooperation with Chinese partners to produce more smart products beneficial to human life and bring more convenience and efficiency to people.

At the lobby of Microsoft Corporation, Xi Jinping met with representatives from both sides who attended the 8th China-US Internet Industry Forum. Xi Jinping stressed that in the present era, social informatization develops at a high pace, and a secure, stable and prosperous cyberspace is becoming more and more critical to a country or even the world peace and development. China proposes to build a cyberspace which is peaceful, secure, open and cooperative, and advocates that all countries formulate Internet public policy suitable for their own national conditions. Both China and the US are major countries in the Internet sphere, therefore the two should conduct constructive dialogue on cyber issues on the basis of mutual respect and mutual trust and create highlights in China-US cooperation so as to make the cyberspace benefit people in the two countries and the rest of the world in a better way.

During the visit Xi Jinping accepted the "Liu Lin Hai" ship model presented by Microsoft Corporation. In 1979 the "Liu Lin Hai" vessel arrived at Seattle, putting an end to the decades-long suspension of maritime trade between China and the US. Xi Jinping presented a sapling of metasequoia to the Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) which was jointly established by Tsinghua University and the University of Washington.

On the same day Xi Jinping and Mme. Peng Liyuan also had a brief meeting with Bill Gates and his wife at the headquarters of Microsoft Corporation.
