On September 25 local time, President Xi Jinping attended the welcome luncheon co-hosted by Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry of the US in the US Department of State.

Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. 70 years ago, China and the US fought side by side against the aggression of Fascists and safeguarded the peace, freedom and justice of mankind. The Chinese people will never forget the invaluable assistance from the US people. Over the past 70 years, the China-US relations have experienced ups and downs but keep moving ahead on the whole, bringing substantial benefits to peoples of the two countries and the rest of the world. Looking into the future, China and the US should strengthen strategic mutual trust, realize peaceful co-existence and jointly make bigger the cake of cooperation, so as to bring more and better benefits to the two peoples and the international community.

Xi Jinping emphasized that President Barack Obama and I are firmly committed to building a new model of major-country relationship between China and the US. Under the guidance of this consensus, my visit has obtained fruitful results and important progress has been made in many aspects like investment, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, addressing climate change and the coordination and cooperation in multilateral affairs. All of these have clearly sent another positive signal to the world that China and the US will strengthen cooperation and meet challenges together. I believe that as long as we join hands and work with perseverance, we will surely and constantly break new grounds for the China-US relations and better benefit people of the two countries and the rest of the world.

Joe Biden said that over the past two days, President Barack Obama conducted many candid and in-depth conversations with President Xi Jinping, reaching broad consensus on promoting mutual trust, advancing bilateral cooperation in various fields and properly managing and controlling divergences. The US side reiterates that China's peaceful development will have a positive influence worldwide. The US and China enjoy substantial common interests. Although there are some differences, still they are all resolvable. There are also competitions, but they represent a healthy relation in which the two sides can learn from each other and achieve common development.

John Kerry expressed that the US and China have conducted fruitful cooperation on global issues such as addressing climate change. The populations of the two countries together account for a quarter of that of the world and the their GDP one third of the world total volume. The cooperation between the two sides is far more effective than that between other countries. As long as the US and China speak frankly and sincerely and seek common ground while reserving differences, they will surely overcome divergences and obtain greater achievements from cooperation.

Mme. Peng Liyuan, Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the above activity.
