Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh

On September 26, 2015, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh in New York.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Bangladesh are good neighbors, good friends and good partners. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations 40 years ago, the two countries have respected and supported each other with mutual understanding, and bilateral relations have constantly progressed. China takes Bangladesh as an important cooperative partner in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region and will, together with Bangladesh, keep high-level exchanges, and expand cooperation in trade, production capacity, energy development, infrastructure construction and other key fields. The two countries should continue to earnestly organize activities for the 40th anniversary of establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, advance cooperation in education, broadcasting and TV and universities, and facilitate personnel exchanges thus bring more benefits to the two peoples. Both side should also keep communication and coordination on major international and regional issues. China will provide support within its capability to Bangladesh in dealing with climate change.

Xi Jinping noted that the Chinese people are now committed to realizing the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. China proposed to build the Belt and Road and hopes that its neighbors and friends including Bangladesh will jointly share this development opportunity. China supports Chinese enterprises to invest in Bangladesh and will provide fund to support major cooperation projects agreed by both sides. China values the constructive role of Bangladesh in pushing construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, and will keep close communication with all parties to push for early results from it.

Sheikh Hasina expressed that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Over the past 40 years, the two countries have established a close partnership. Bangladesh is grateful for China's long-term assistance to its economic and social development. She is very glad to attend the High-level Roundtable on South-South Cooperation co-chaired by President Xi Jinping today. The important measures announced by the Chinese side at the Roundtable are highly welcomed by vast developing countries including Bangladesh. Bangladesh will enhance exchanges and cooperation with China in such areas as economy, trade, finance, infrastructure construction and people-to-people and cultural engagement and take an active part in cooperation under the framework of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
