On October 20 local time, President Xi Jinping addressed the UK Parliament, stressing that when reviewing the history of the two countries’ exchanges, he deeply felt that the source of development of China-UK relations comes from the mutual understanding, support and friendship of the two peoples. During the World War II, 24 Chinese navy students participated in the landing operations in the Battle of Normandy and won Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s praise for their fearlessness, bravery and battle skills. Lord Michael Lindsay, the late member of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament, took an active part in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, helping China modify telecommunication equipments under extremely difficult circumstances and risking his life to deliver scarce supplies such as medicines and communication equipments to the Chinese army. History will remember forever people making outstanding contributions to China-UK friendship and the cause of world peace and justice.

At the beginning of this year, UK nurse Anna Cross was unfortunately infected with Ebola virus in her volunteer service in Africa. China made special arrangements quickly at UK’s request and made urgent delivery of newly-developed medicament to the UK, helping her conquer the virus. Lord Michael Bates, member of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament, made a charity walk of about 1,700 kilometers under the burning sun for over two months recently in China, put the donation into China’s charity cause and urged people to cherish peace. Because of the hard work of countless friendly people from both China and the UK, the China-UK relations can cross the oceans and be carried forward.
