On October 21 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister David Cameron at the Prime Minister's Office in Downing Street of London. Both sides spoke positively of the achievements scored in the development of China-UK relations, exchanged in-depth views and reached important consensus on bilateral relationship and major international and regional hotspot issues, and agreed to jointly forge a China-UK global comprehensive strategic partnership in the 21st century, so as to open up a "golden era" of enduring, open and win-win China-UK relationship.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the UK is an old yet young nation featured by both traditional and modern elements. In recent years, China-UK relations and bilateral cooperation in all sectors have embarked on a fast track of development. As this year marks the starting of the second decade of China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership, it is the right time for the two sides to deepen their bilateral relationship and mutually beneficial cooperation. China always attaches importance to China-UK relationship and stands ready to, together with the UK, elevate the China-UK relations, enrich the connotation of bilateral relations, map out blueprint for bilateral cooperation and thus push China-UK relations to a new high.

Xi Jinping stressed that China appreciates the willingness expressed by the UK to be most open partner of China and is ready to work with the UK to ensure the bilateral relations remain enduring and stable on a higher level, adhere to an open and inclusive bilateral cooperation in broader areas and strive for mutual benefit and win-win result from China-UK relations in wider-ranged areas. The two countries should respect each other's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity as well as the development path chosen by each other, committee to handling bilateral relations from a perspective of win-win cooperation and treat each other in an open and inclusive mind by upholding a philosophy of "harmony in diversity". The facts have proven that as long as both sides stick to principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, inclusiveness and mutual learning, the China-UK relationship can develop in an enduring, stable and healthy way. China will encourage its enterprises to invest in north England, and it welcomes the UK's decision to be the first major Western country to become a prospective founding member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). China also hopes the UK support it in joining the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

David Cameron noted that President Xi Jinping's visit to the UK yielded fruitful results. Both sides reached consensus on a number of major projects and a series of economic and trade agreements, which will strongly promote the development of bilateral relations. The UK is willing to be China's best cooperative partner in the West and expand cooperation with China in finance, energy, creative industries, facilitation of visa issuing and other fields. The UK is ready to actively participate in the construction of the AIIB and study on intensifying bilateral cooperation under the framework of the "Belt and Road". As the UK is under economic restructuring, it welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and develop business in the country. The UK supports the EU to reach free trade area agreement with China at an early date and will make positive contributions to the development of EU-China relations.

The leaders of both countries reached multiple consensus, agreeing to jointly forge a China-UK global comprehensive strategic partnership in the 21st century.

Both sides agreed to maintain momentum of high-level exchanges, bring the role of high-level dialogues and communication mechanisms covering finance, economy, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and security into full play, and enhance communication and cooperation on such major international and regional hot-spot issues as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, international economic and financial governance, climate change and international peacekeeping, pushing forward the in-depth development of China-UK relations in an all-round manner. Both sides believed that closer connection between development strategies of both sides can exert radiation effect of "one plus one is bigger than two".

Both sides also reached consensus on deepening mutually beneficial cooperation at wider range and higher level. Both sides agreed to upgrade bilateral trade, promote cooperation in fields ranging from finance and infrastructure construction to high-end manufacturing, new energy, energy conservation, environmental protection, and bio-pharmaceutical technology, and support the capital markets of the two countries to carry out high-level, diversified and multi-layered practical cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, keep expanding exchanges between their students and boost people-to-people exchanges.

The two countries also pledged to maintain communication within the frameworks including the United Nations, intensify cooperation in international and regional affairs and join efforts to promote the cause of peace and development of the mankind. The leaders of the two nations also exchanged views on climate change, global development, global health care, the G20, peacekeeping operations of the UN and hotspot issues in relevant regions.

After the talks, the leaders of the two countries together witnessed the signing of documents on bilateral cooperation covering finance, customs, local cooperation, emerging industries, and sustainable development.

Xi Jinping and David Cameron also met the press together, answering questions on China-UK relations, the construction of the "Belt and Road" and other topics.
