Xi Jinping Leaves for Beijing After Successfully Concluding His State Visit to UK

On the afternoon of October 23 local time, President Xi Jinping left Manchester for Beijing after successfully concluding his state visit to the UK.

Xi Jinping arrived in London on the evening of October 19, starting the first state visit to the UK paid by a Chinese President in 10 years.

At noon of October 20, Queen ElizabethⅡof the UK held a grand welcoming ceremony for President Xi Jinping at Horse Guards Parade in London. In the afternoon, Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the UK Parliament, stressing that China and the UK should intensify exchanges and mutual learning, boost mutual understanding, support and friendship between the two peoples and thus promote bilateral cooperation to a new high. On the same day, Xi Jinping also met with Prince Charles and his wife, Prince William and Leader of Labor Party Jeremy Corbyn of the UK. On the evening, Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan attended the grand welcoming banquet hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace.

On October 21, after visiting Imperial College London and attending the China-UK Creative Industry Exhibition, Xi Jinping held talks with Prime Minister David Cameron of the UK at the Prime Minister's Office in Downing Street of London. Both sides spoke positively of the achievements scored in China-UK relations, exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and major international and regional hotspot issues and reached important consensus, and decided to jointly build the China-UK global comprehensive strategic partnership for the 21st century and open up a "golden era" of the enduring, open and win-win China-UK relationship. After the talks, the leaders of the two countries witnessed the signing of documents on bilateral cooperation and met with the press together. Afterwards, Xi Jinping attended the China-UK Business Summit held in the City of London together with David Cameron and delivered a speech. Xi Jinping then also visited Huawei UK.

On the evening, Lord Mayor of the City of London Alan Yarrow hosted a grand ceremony and banquet at the City Hall in City of London to welcome Xi Jinping’s state visit to the UK. Xi Jinping delivered an important speech entitled “Work Together to Promote Openness, Inclusiveness and Peaceful Development” at the banquet, stressing that China and the UK should, take a farsighted and strategic approach, be open and inclusive, follow the principle of win-win cooperation and be bold and pioneering in the approach to seize the opportunities of the times and jointly usher in the "golden era" of bilateral relations.

On October 22, Xi Jinping visited Inmarsat in London, attended the opening ceremony of annual conference of UK Confucius Institutes and Classrooms, and held a group meeting with UK friends including former Prime Minister Gordon Brown. On the afternoon, Xi Jinping met once again with David Cameron in Chequers Court, the Prime Minister’s country retreat. The leaders of the two nations had a four-and-half-hour long talk, exchanging in-depth views on governance and administration of state affairs, bilateral relations, international situation and other topics. After the meeting, Xi Jinping left London for Manchester to continue his visit.

On the morning of October 23, Xi Jinping visited the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester and Manchester City Football Academy, and attended the welcoming banquet held by the municipal government of Manchester. Before he left for Beijing, he also visited the Airport City Manchester project.
