Xi Jinping Visits Airport City Manchester Project

On October 23 local time, President Xi Jinping, accompanied by Prime Minister David Cameron of the UK, visited the Airport City Manchester project.

Xi Jinping and his wife Mme. Peng Liyuan arrived at the Manchester Airport along with David Cameron. Leaders of the two countries jointly visited the picture exhibition of the development planning for Airport City Manchester and the model of the Chinese Park in the Airport City, were briefed on the flights between Beijing and Manchester launched by Hainan Airlines of China and delivered speeches.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the Airport City Manchester under construction has created several firsts in the UK and the history of China-UK cooperation. The Airport City is the largest urban reconstruction project of the UK since the 2012 London Olympic Games as well as the first project put into operation since the signing of China-UK memorandum of understanding on enhancement of infrastructure cooperation in 2011. It is hoped that the two sides can cooperate sincerely to build the Airport City into an exemplary project of China-UK win-win cooperation.

Xi Jinping stressed that in recent years China-UK cooperation in economy, trade and investment has yielded fruitful results. Looking ahead into the future, China and the UK share a broad cooperation space in the area of infrastructure construction. The non-stop flight from Beijing to Manchester of Hainan Airlines of China will build a new bridge for cooperation between the two cities and the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to work with the UK side to further discuss and explore new thoughts and new measures concerning cooperation in infrastructure construction and open up new prospects for common development of the two sides.
