On September 2, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Michel Temer of Brazil, who was in China for the G20 Hangzhou Summit. Xi Jinping firstly congratulated Brazil on successfully hosting the Rio Olympic Games and wished a success of the upcoming Rio Paralympics Games.

Xi Jinping pointed out that firmly supported by successive governments as well as people from all social circles of the two countries, China-Brazil friendship is mature and solid state-to-state relationship. China is fully confident of Brazil's development prospect as well as China-Brazil cooperation. Both countries should constantly elevate bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to new levels by continuing to unswervingly see each other as development opportunities and partners and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Brazil should maintain close exchanges at high level and in all areas. The two countries should also enhance economic and trade cooperation by giving play to bilateral complementary advantages in economy, so as to realize common development. Both countries should strengthen industrial alignment and production capacity cooperation, and achieve substantial progress from "Two-Ocean Railway" project and other major projects as early as possible. Both countries should inject new impetus into practical cooperation through technological innovation, deepen cooperation in such emerging fields as energy conservation, environmental protection and renewable energy, and expand financing cooperation. The two sides should expand exchanges and cooperation in people-to-people and cultural engagement, youth, sports and other sectors, strengthen strategic coordination in global governance, sustainable development, Doha Round of WTO negotiations, climate change and other major international issues, and intensify coordination and cooperation within the G20 and the BRICS frameworks.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China has always been confident in Latin America's development prospect, and is willing to maintain communication and coordination with Brazil on overall China-Latin America cooperation and jointly advance the construction of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, so as to constantly enrich the connotation of China-Latin America comprehensive cooperative partnership.

Michel Temer said that he is happy to visit China and attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit as his first overseas trip after taking office as president. Valuing a steady, sustained and in-depth comprehensive strategic partnership with China, Brazil is willing to enhance bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, energy, aviation, agriculture and husbandry, investment, financing, infrastructure and other areas, and maintain close communication and coordination in such international affairs as coping with climate change.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
