Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore

On September 2, 2016, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore in Hangzhou.

Xi Jinping welcomed Lee Hsien Loong to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit. Xi Jinping stressed that both sides last year established a partnership of all-round cooperation keeping pace with the times. Standing at a new historic starting point, the two sides should well carry out top-level design, well plan for the development of bilateral relations, maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen communication, and understand and respect each other on issues concerning respective core interest and major concerns. China highly values Singapore’s active willingness to participate in the “Belt and Road” construction, and is willing to forge China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Project of Strategic Connectivity into a new highlight of bilateral cooperation. The two sides should improve the quality and levels of two flagship projects, the Suzhou Industrial Park and the Tianjin Eco-city, deepen cooperation in areas including finance, internet, information and communication technology, social management, law enforcement security, counter-terrorism and anti-corruption. It is hoped that Singapore, as the coordinator of China-ASEAN relations, can play an active role and push forward the healthy and stable development of China-ASEAN relations. China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Singapore in regional and international mechanisms.

Lee Hsien Loong expressed that he is happy to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit in China at invitation. Guided by the partnership of all-round cooperation keeping up with the times between Singapore and China, bilateral cooperation undergoes smooth progress in all areas. The Singapore-China (Chongqing) Demonstration Project of Strategic Connectivity is gradually taking shape. Singapore hopes to take it as an opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation in aviation, finance, connectivity and other areas under the framework of the “Belt and Road”. As the coordinator of ASEAN-China relations, Singapore is willing to promote the mutually beneficial cooperation between the ASEAN and China.
