Xi Jinping Holds Talks with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan

On September 2, 2016, President Xi Jinping held talks in Hangzhou with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, and welcomed him to attend the G20 Summit in Hangzhou at the invitation of China.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, China-Kazakhstan relations demonstrate a momentum of accelerated development. Bilateral cooperation in all areas is comprehensively advancing with varied highlights. The two sides should take the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Kazakhstan diplomatic relations in the next year as an opportunity to carry forward good-neighborliness and friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen strategic coordination, and jointly forge a China-Kazakhstan comprehensive strategic partnership featuring sincerity and mutual trust, unity and mutual assistance, shared security as well as win-win cooperation.

When talking about bilateral cooperation in the next stage, Xi Jinping stressed that both China and Kazakhstan should comprehensively promote the construction of the "Belt and Road", and jointly well implement the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Outline on Docking the Silk Road Economic Belt Construction and the New Economic Policy of the “Bright Road”. Both countries should steadily boost cooperation in production capacity and investment, enhance information communication and policy coordination, and promote the implementation of more competitive projects with high added-value. The two countries should also actively develop economic and trade cooperation, optimize trade structure, carry out large-scale cooperation projects, expand financing channels and facilitate trade growth. China and Kazakhstan should deepen energy and resource cooperation, expand people-to-people and cultural cooperation and step up security cooperation. China is willing to strengthen communication with Kazakhstan, elevate the level of trade, investment and service facilitation between China and members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), and jointly advance the docking between the "Belt and Road" construction and the EEU construction. China is willing to fully cooperate with Kazakhstan in ensuring the success of next year's Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, enhance communication and coordination with Kazakhstan within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, and actively support Kazakhstan to well host the Expo 2017 Astana.

Nursultan Nazarbayev thanked China for specially inviting him to attend the G20 Summit. He said that Kazakhstan has maintained traditional friendship and high-level political trust with China. Treasuring bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, the country supports the docking of the construction of the "Silk Road Economic Belt" with the new economic policy of the ‘Bright Road”. Kazakhstan is willing to deepen cooperation with China in such areas as trade, agriculture, energy, petroleum processing, environmental protection and security, and intensify communication and coordination in international affairs and within the SCO framework. The Kazakh side supports China to well host the G20 Hangzhou Summit, so as to lead the international community to jointly deal with current challenges faced by the world economy.

Regarding the upcoming G20 Hangzhou Summit, both heads of state expressed that they hope the summit can play a leading role in charting the course for the world economy, exploring impetus for global growth and revitalizing confidence in the international market.

After the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of relevant cooperation documents concerning China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee, the alignment between the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt with the new economic policy of the “Bright Road”, agriculture, inspection and quarantine and other areas.
