Xi Jinping Meets with President Vladimir Putin of Russia

On September 4, 2016, President Xi Jinping met in Hangzhou with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Xi Jinping welcomed Vladimir Putin to attend the G20 Hangzhou Summit in China. Xi Jinping pointed out that during President Vladimir Putin's visit to China this June, we grandly celebrated the 15th anniversary of the signing of China-Russia Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, jointly signed and issued 3 important joint declarations and witnessed the signing of nearly 30 practical cooperation agreements, which fully demonstrates the firm resolution of the two countries in deepening comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, comprehensively shows the common stance of the two countries on major international and regional issues, as well as voices the unified opinion of China and Russia in jointly safeguarding global strategic security and world peace and stability. Both sides should well implement various consensus and agreements reached between Mr. President and I, so as to promote China-Russia cooperation in various fields to continuously achieve new outcomes.

Xi Jinping stressed that both China and Russia should more closely enhance all-round strategic cooperation, and firmly support each other's efforts in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests. China and Russia need to actively push forward the alignment of development strategies, effectively dovetail the "Belt and Road" construction with the Eurasian Economic Union construction, advance practical cooperation in such areas as infrastructure construction, energy, aviation, aerospace and advanced technology, and strengthen military communication and security cooperation. Both countries should also coordinate and cooperate more closely on international and regional affairs, as well as resolutely safeguard the principles and purpose of the UN Charter, the basic norms of international relations, and international equity and justice to promote world peace, stability and prosperity.

Xi Jinping pointed out that all parties hold high expectations for the G20 Hangzhou Summit under the current situation. Over the past year, China has worked together with all sides, centering on the theme and major topics of the summit, to focus on forging outcome highlights, so as to jointly build an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy. The success of the Hangzhou Summit is in line with the need of global economic development and is in the common interests of all parties including China and Russia. It is believed that with support from all parties including Russia, who is an important member of the G20, the Hangzhou Summit will certainly achieve success.

Vladimir Putin expressed that on the occasion of celebrating the 15th anniversary of the signing of Russia-China Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, Russia is happy with the high-level operation of bilateral relations. With joint efforts made by both sides, Russia and China witness continuously developed economic and trade relations, and increasingly closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The two countries have also maintained sound communication and coordination in international affairs. Russia is willing to work with China to transform bilateral political mutual trust and people-to-people friendship into greater impetus for economic cooperation, and expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, energy, technology, science and other areas, so as to bring more tangible benefit to the two peoples. Russia supports the theme and topics set by the Chinese side for the G20 Hangzhou Summit, and wishes the Hangzhou Summit a complete success.
